The Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme has commenced a capacity-building programme for staff to eliminate fraud, waste and abuse in the management of the state’s health insurance scheme.
The training held in Port Harcourt on Friday is part of efforts to strengthen accountability and expand access to affordable healthcare for Rivers residents.
Declaring the training open, RIVCHPP Executive Secretary, Dr. Vetty Agala, said the programme was designed to equip staff with skills to identify and prevent leakages across all levels of the agency.Agala noted that prudent management of time, funds and materials is critical to sustaining the scheme.
“The agency has committed significant resources to this training because every resource saved from fraud, waste and abuse can be redirected towards providing affordable healthcare to more Rivers residents,” she said.
Board member, Dr. Mangibo Daniel, who facilitated the training, described fraud and waste as major challenges that drain organizational resources. He said the training will help staff detect irregularities and strengthen internal controls.
Speaking for participants, Pharm. Bona Vopno thanked management and assured that the knowledge gained will be used to improve service delivery.
