Veteran Nollywood actor and comedian, Okechukwu Anthony Onyegbule, popularly known as Okey Bakassi, has dismissed reports claiming his 25-year-old marriage has crashed.
Reports had gone viral on social media on Sunday, October 12, 2026, alleging that the comedian lamented that his wife, Ezinne, relocated to the United States for nursing school with their three children, and after 15 years of him sending money from Nigeria, she asked for a divorce, saying “we don’t really have a marriage anymore.”
The rumour gained traction barely a week after Bakassi celebrated his 25th wedding anniversary with a video collage of their love story.
In his reaction in a video statement on Monday, October 13, Bakassi described the report as “evil, senseless and completely false” — a desperate attempt to chase clout.
“While I was on set today filming a new movie with my colleagues, someone was busy on social media trying to disrespect me and my family. Someone went on social media and created an article with my name, my picture and that of my wife, alleging that we have gone our separate ways,” he said.
“Please, let me say to our friends, family and fans, my wife and I are still very much together. Our family is intact and in God’s hands.”
The comedian clarified that his wife lives in Canada and not the United States, and she is not a nurse as claimed. He also revealed that they recently celebrated their 25th anniversary together in Canada.
Bakassi said the doctored video was from a political commentary he made before the 2023 elections, which was maliciously taken out of context. He urged the public to disregard the rumour and called on fans to report the social media account spreading the falsehood, adding that the incident revealed those who genuinely care about his family.
