The murderer has been sentenced to forty years in prison thirty years after Tupac Shakur’s killing.

Duane Keith “Keffe D” Davis, 63, was sentenced on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, to 40 years to life in prison in Las Vegas. Judge Carli Kierny imposed 20 years to life for first-degree murder plus a consecutive 20 years to life for use of a deadly weapon.

“You don’t get to take a man from his family. You don’t get to take his very life, his whole future from him, and just walk away from it. Especially when that man is Tupac Shakur,” Kierny said.

“The world never forgot about him and his death, and neither did Las Vegas. Took us 30 years, but at this time, you are going to face justice.”

Davis was found guilty on August 31 after just over 3 hours of deliberation. He is the first and only person ever charged in Shakur’s death. Prosecutors said Davis, former leader of the Southside Compton Crips, ordered the September 7, 1996 drive-by shooting on the Las Vegas Strip in retaliation after his nephew Orlando Anderson was beaten by Shakur’s entourage at MGM Grand after a Mike Tyson fight.

The case went unsolved for nearly three decades until Davis’ own words became the key evidence – his 2019 memoir Compton Street Legend, police interviews, and numerous documentaries where he boasted about his role.

Tupac was 25 and at the height of his career, months after releasing All Eyez On Me. Davis received 731 days credit for time served since his September 2023 arrest. His lawyer says he will appeal.
