By Samuel Olusegun Precious

The Rivers State Tourism Development Agency (RSTDA) has officially endorsed the 4th edition of the Rivers International Film Festival (RIFF) 2026.

The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of RSTDA, Mr. Yibo Koko, gave the endorsement, describing RIFF as a strategic driver for film tourism and economic growth in Rivers State.

The endorsement comes as RIFF 2026 is set to hold from October 29 to November 1, 2026, on Bonny Island, Rivers State, with the theme “Film Tourism: A Pathway to Economic Development.”

Speaking on the partnership, Koko said the Festival aligns with RSTDA’s mandate to promote sustainable tourism, cultural heritage and creative economy. He noted that Rivers State is endowed with beaches, boat regattas, masquerades, festivals and hospitality assets that can rival global destinations when properly harnessed through film and culture.

“Tourism is a driver of sustainable development. RIFF provides a platform to tell Rivers stories, attract visitors, and create jobs for young creatives,” Koko stated.

According to RIFF Public Relations Officer, Blessing Ezeigbo, this year’s edition will feature film screenings, masterclasses, industry conversations, networking sessions and cultural tours. The Festival has received over 2,000 entries from more than 170 countries, with the United States and India leading submissions.

RIFF, first launched in 2023, is the first indigenous film festival in Rivers State. Its growing international profile has already earned commendation from the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy.

The RSTDA assured of its full support to ensure RIFF 2026 showcases Bonny Island and Rivers State as a premier destination for film tourism in Africa.
