The White House has asked Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign as U.S. Ambassador to Greece following allegations of inappropriate behavior.
Press Secretary to the White House, Katie Zacharia, confirmed the development at her first briefing on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
“We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign. She has been a wonderful asset to the team, and we wish her well,” Zacharia said.
President Donald Trump, who had said on Monday he was considering firing her, told reporters on Tuesday: “She was doing a good job, but we didn’t like what we were reading.”
The action follows a series of reports by The Wall Street Journal beginning last month, which alleged that Guilfoyle sold access to Trump administration officials in exchange for money, gifts and favors.
The Journal reported that before her confirmation in 2025, Guilfoyle asked Trump donor Eric Deters to pay off a $100,000 American Express bill via wire transfer, telling him “It won’t show up anywhere.”
Other reports cited her close relationship with a lobbyist for a Greek energy company, accepting lavish private travel from wealthy Greek businessmen, and audio of her bragging about ties to Greek businessmen to secure an invitation to a Davos dinner honoring Eric Trump.
Guilfoyle, 57, former Fox News host and ex-fiancée of Donald Trump Jr., denied wrongdoing. In a post on X, she said: “These allegations are false, and I intend to vigorously defend my name, my reputation, and my integrity.”
“While my time as Ambassador may be coming to an end, my commitment to President Trump, the America First movement, and the country I love will never end,” she added.
Her lawyers said the money sought from Deters was unpaid fees for public appearances predating her nomination, and that all private travel followed State Department guidance. The White House confirmed late Tuesday it had received her formal resignation.
