The Rivers State Police Command has arrested 18 crime suspects and recovered 47 firearms, 102 rounds of live ammunition, and 12 stolen vehicles following a series of targeted operations across the state between June and August 2026.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, made the announcement on Thursday during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Port Harcourt.
CP Adepoju stated that the successes were achieved through intelligence-led, proactive policing measures aimed at dismantling criminal networks and safeguarding lives and property within the state.
Among the major breakthroughs highlighted was the arrest of three key members of a deadly gang responsible for an attack on police officers on stop-and-search duty in Aluu on June 29, 2026. The violent assault resulted in the deaths of two officers, while others sustained severe injuries—including one officer whose leg was later amputated. The attackers also fled the scene with two service AK-47 rifles.
“The suspects confessed during interrogation and subsequently led detectives to their hideout in Omagwa, where both stolen AK-47 rifles were successfully recovered,” CP Adepoju disclosed.
The police chief assured residents that the command remains resolute in its commitment to hunting down fleeing accomplices and ensuring that criminal elements find no safe haven in Rivers State.
