Rivers APC Governorship Candidate Demands Flood Emergency, Pledges Action After Community Tour

By Sandra Kenneth

The All-Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Rivers State, Kingsley Chinda, has called on the Federal Government to immediately declare a state of emergency over the devastating floods currently ravaging multiple communities across the state.

Chinda made the call during a fact-finding tour of heavily impacted areas, where recent torrential rainfall has displaced numerous families in both the capital city of Port Harcourt and several rural communities.

Expressing deep solidarity with the victims, the APC flag bearer promised to directly engage Governor Siminalayi Fubara to ensure the swift deployment of emergency relief materials to affected citizens.

Drawing on his professional background as the state’s former Commissioner for Environment, Chinda noted that the current flooding is “abnormal” given the state’s extensive natural network of creeks, which should ordinarily aid drainage. He emphasized the urgent need for a comprehensive, long-term engineering solution to address the recurring crisis permanently.

To provide immediate support, Chinda distributed cash donations to several displaced families during the assessment tour. He was accompanied by his running mate and APC deputy governorship candidate, Major Jack, alongside Emilia Jaja, the lawmaker representing Obio/Akpor Constituency One in the Rivers State House of Assembly.
