The Abia State Police Command has confirmed the discovery of 28 human skulls and bones in suspected criminal camps in the state.
The discovery of 28 human skulls and other bones were made following a police raid on suspected criminal camps in the forests of Umuaku-Isuochi and Nneato in Umunneochi Local Government Area of the state.
The operatives who acted on intelligence, stormed the forests which served as hideouts for criminal gangs terrorizing the area. During the raid, security agents uncovered 28 human skulls and other human bones suspected to be remains of victims killed by the hoodlums.
Sources said the camps have been destroyed by the police while investigations are ongoing to arrest fleeing suspects linked to the heinous crimes.The development has sparked panic among residents of Umunneochi, who have long complained about activities of kidnappers and unknown gunmen in the forests.
Umunneochi LGA, which shares boundary with Enugu and Imo States, has in recent years become notorious for kidnapping and other violent crimes.
