The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, and three other suspects in connection with the death of Mr. Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the Ministry of Secondary Education.
The Delta State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, September 28, 2026. Edafe said the latest arrest brings the number of persons currently in police custody in connection with the case to five.
“The Delta State Police Command, in continuation of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, Deputy Director in the Delta State Ministry of Secondary Education, has taken into custody the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, alongside three other suspects in connection with the case,” the statement read.
The Command, in the statement, also declared a manhunt for two other persons it described as key suspects – Mrs. Clemetine Ufuoma, Director of Basic and Secondary Education, and Clement Apia, the Commissioner’s driver.
According to the police statement, their presence is required to advance the investigation.The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale has urged the fleeing suspects to make themselves available to the police without further delay and assured that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly, impartially and professionally.
Adeda died after an alleged confrontation at the Ministry of Secondary Education in Asaba. The family of the deceased had demanded an independent investigation and rejected the eight-member administrative panel set up by the state government.
The Nigeria Labour Congress in Delta State has also declared an indefinite strike over the death and demanded safety for its members in the state.
