By Samuel Olusegun Precious

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have scored a major breakthrough against violent crime following the arrest of three suspected members of a notorious gang responsible for the murder of two police officers in the state.

The suspects were apprehended by the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU) following an intensive, intelligence-driven tactical operation.

The slain officers were ambushed and killed during a stop-and-search operation in Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area, on June 29, 2026.

During the arrest, police operatives recovered a significant cache of arms, including three AK-47 rifles, one Scorpion rifle, and two police service rifles that were snatched from the deceased officers during the June attack.

The Command confirmed that efforts are actively ongoing to track down a remaining suspect who is currently at large, while investigations into other murder cases linked to the syndicate continue.

ORASHI NATIONAL CONGRESS APPLAUDS POLICE

Reacting to the development, the Orashi National Congress (ONC) praised the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, and his team for their swift and decisive action.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the President General of the ONC, Amb. Emeni Ibe, described the operation as a testament to the professionalism, resilience, and tactical determination of the Command under CP Adepoju’s leadership.

“The Orashi National Congress commends the Commissioner of Police and the officers involved in this successful operation,” Amb. Ibe stated. “Their dedication and courage in tracking down those responsible for the murder of police officers deserve recognition. This achievement sends a strong message that criminals cannot operate with impunity in Rivers State.”

The socio-cultural group also commended the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for strengthening security strategies across the federation.

Urging the Command to sustain its momentum until the entire gang is dismantled, the ONC called on Rivers State residents to support security agencies by providing credible, timely intelligence to enhance community safety.
