The Resident Pastor of Streams of Joy Church, Port Harcourt, Pastor Okey Okereke, has urged clergymen and the Christian faithful to incorporate physical exercise into their daily routines alongside their spiritual obligations.

Pastor Okereke made the call on Saturday during a series of novelty football matches organized in his honor at the Sharks Stadium in Port Harcourt to mark his birthday.

Reflecting on the relationship between spiritual devotion and physical wellness, the clergyman stressed that maintaining bodily health is crucial for overall well-being.

“The Bible says bodily exercise profits a little, and I want to advise Christians to take advantage of that,” Okereke said. “We do spiritual exercises all the time—we pray, we fast—but sometimes we also need to do physical exercise. It is good for the body, the soul, and the spirit.”

Speaking at the event, the President of the church’s women’s ministry commended Pastor Okereke’s commitment to health initiatives, noting that his leadership has consistently promoted community health outreaches. She encouraged women to prioritize personal wellness while managing their domestic and professional responsibilities.

The event organizer and team captain, identified simply as AY, stated that the novelty matches were organized to celebrate the pastor’s impactful service and dedication to the congregation.

In the novelty fixtures, the Singles team defeated the Married Men 2-1 in the men’s category, while the matchup between the Single Women and Married Women ended in a 1-1 draw.
