The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ebonyi State, Chief Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii, has declared that the recent sack of former Commissioner for Works, Engr. Stanley Lebechi Mbam, is insufficient without a comprehensive financial audit of the state’s public works.
Speaking through his spokesperson, Chief Emmanuel Igwe, Odii demanded full transparency regarding public funds spent under the administration of Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru. Specifically, the opposition leader called for the public disclosure of procurement records, bidding processes, payment certificates, and cost variations for 627 kilometers of roads reportedly constructed across the state.
In addition to road infrastructure, Odii requested detailed accounting for major capital projects, including the Vanco Flyover, the ICT University, the Oferekpe project, the Aeronautic University in Onueke, and residential duplexes built for traditional rulers.
“Every kobo of taxpayers’ money must be accounted for,” Odii stated, urging the state government to publish complete records of its Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) receipts, local government funding distributions, and donor agency grants.
The PDP candidate announced plans to serve a formal pre-action notice on the Ebonyi State Government, issuing a seven-day ultimatum to disclose the requested financial records or face legal action.
Reaffirming his commitment to governance reform ahead of the 2027 elections, Odii assured residents that a PDP administration would prioritize accountability, while calling on voters to remain peaceful and protect their civic rights at the ballot box.
