MOSOP Kicks Against Planned Resumption Of Oil Exploration In Ogoni

The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People has expressed deep concern over ongoing developments surrounding oil resumption in Ogoniland, warning that the current dialogue process may lose credibility if urgent issues are not addressed.

In a communiqué issued at the end of an Ogoni National Congress held on June 13 at the Peace and Freedom Centre in Bori, headquarters of Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State, the group said deliberations should be focused on security challenges, political exclusion, oil resumption, implementation of the UNEP report, and the state of funding of Hydrocarbon Remediation, Project,  HYPREP.

While commending the Federal Government for initiating engagement with the Ogoni people through the Ogoni Dialogue Committee, MOSOP expressed dissatisfaction that discussions have largely centered on oil resumption without adequately addressing critical concerns such as political inclusion and marginalization of the Ogoni people.

MOSOP warned that the Ogoni people may withdraw from the dialogue if there is no visible improvement in transparency, openness, and commitment by the Federal Government and other stakeholders.
