INEC to Address Nigerians on 2027 Poll Preparations as Election Countdown Hits 100 Days

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, will on Tuesday brief Nigerians on its preparations for the 2027 general elections as the polls enter the final 100-day countdown.

The commission will hold a national stakeholders’ meeting and World Press Conference at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, where it is expected to provide updates on the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and measures to protect the integrity of the elections.

INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, SAN, is expected to address the gathering alongside other key stakeholders in the electoral process.

“The Commission will provide updates on preparations for the elections, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and critical measures to ensure the integrity of the electoral process,” the commission said.

INEC said the engagement is also aimed at strengthening collaboration with institutions and groups whose activities are central to the conduct and security of the elections.

“The national stakeholders’ meeting underlines the Commission’s commitment to absolute transparency, proactive public communication, and collaborative engagement with key actors in the electoral ecosystem,” it said.

Participants are expected to include political party leaders, security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, civil society organisations and election observers.

Disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives are also expected to attend.

The meeting comes as INEC works to complete the administrative, logistical and technological preparations required for the 2027 polls.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 6, and will be broadcast live on major national television networks and streamed on INEC’s official social media platforms.

INEC says attendance at the venue will be by invitation, with accredited journalists and invited guests required to present their invitation cards or accreditation badges at security checkpoints.
