President Bola Tinubu has declared that he is back hale and hearty after his month-long working vacation in Europe.
Tinubu stated this on Tuesday evening after landing at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. The President returned after 28 days abroad, having departed Abuja on August 30.
He spent one week in London before proceeding to Paris, France where he held a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron and met with business leaders.
Tinubu, on his arrival, thanked Nigerians for their support and said he was refreshed and ready to continue work. He is expected to remain in Lagos for several days to attend Independence Day events, including the premiere of a movie honouring late Chief MKO Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, and to hold strategic political meetings ahead of the 2027 elections.
However, his long absence has generated reactions as the opposition flayed the president for not properly handing over to Vice President Kashim Shettima while on leave. Opposition African Action Alliance, AAC, took the matter to court and asked the court to declare the action as unconstitutional.
Some constitutional lawyers also berated the president as Shettima led Nigeria’s delegation to the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York last week.
