More details have emerged from the Monday night attack at the Aluu C4i checkpoint that left two police officers dead.
*Injured Officer Alleges Neglect*
One of the officers on duty, who survived with serious bullet wounds, told Exceed FM at a private hospital where he is receiving treatment that he has been left to cater for his injuries.
“I have spent over 300 thousand naira so far. I feel abandoned as nothing has been done by the police,” he said on condition of anonymity.
He alleged that the Rivers State Commissioner of Police visited Aluu on Tuesday but did not see him. “The police commissioner was here today but did not care to pay a visit to me. He only cares about the dead,” he lamented.
*What Happened on Monday Night*
According to the officer, the team was on routine stop-and-search on the Obiri Ikwerre/Airport Road when a mini bus, popularly called “keke bus”, drove in with four passengers.
“We even thought that they were fellow policemen because they patrol like that too,” he said.
He alleged the occupants opened fire without provocation. “Each gunman targeted a policeman and shot dead two while I escaped with bullet wounds on both legs, two arms, stomach and other parts,” he said.
He added that the gunmen took the rifles of the two officers killed. He said he has moved from hospital to hospital since Monday night and the current facility is demanding N250,000 for an X-ray to locate bullets in his body.
“I need money to buy medicines… It was God that kept me alive… My wife just gave birth last month,” he added.
