The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a man after allegedly recovering an illegal firearm hidden inside a loaf of bread in Port Harcourt.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Blessing Agabe Kaborlo, the suspect was intercepted during a routine check on Azikiwe Road, near Red Cross Junction.Officers recovered a Browning pistol with no visible serial number, concealed inside a loaf of bread from one of the passengers.
The suspect was identified as Braya Nanas of New Road, Borikiri.Police said the suspect allegedly admitted ownership of the weapon and told investigators he bought it in Okrika for eight hundred thousand naira.
Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious people or activities to the nearest police station.He also warned members of the public against accepting, transporting, or storing packages whose contents are unknown.
