Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has publicly apologized to the Igbo community for the role Plateau people played during the Nigerian Civil War 1967-1970.
He made the apology during an interactive session with Igbo leaders from the 17 LGAs of Plateau State at Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos.
Gov. Mutfwang said: “I apologise to the Igbos so that we can put the past behind us and continue to foster unity. We have become one family because our people were deceived into going to war, and we regret it. We must close that chapter and move forward”
“We must unite. We want the Igbos to regard us as their brothers and sisters, and together we must create an enabling environment where everyone can prosper”
He commended Igbos for their contributions to Plateau’s socio-economic development and described them as “an integral part of the state’s growth”. He noted Plateau has remained one of the most accommodating states for Igbos since the war.
The governor disclosed his administration has paid compensation for property seized by the government in the aftermath of the civil war.
Igbo entrepreneurs were urged to support indigenous businesses through mentorship and employment of Plateau youths
