Family Demands Answers Over PHEDC Worker’s Reported Death

The family of a Power Holding Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) staff member, Christian Kpabeke, is demanding answers over his whereabouts after he reportedly left home for work on Sunday, September 27, 2026.

Kpabeke, who worked with PHEDC in Port Harcourt, was reportedly called in by his superiors on Sunday evening following a power-related issue and left home after informing his wife, Beauty, that he would report for duty after dinner.

According to the family, that was the last time they heard from him.

Beauty Kpabeke said two PHEDC staff members visited the family’s residence on Monday, September 28, informing them that her husband had died, allegedly after being electrocuted while working on a high-voltage power line along the East-West Road.

She, however, expressed concern over the circumstances surrounding the reported death and alleged that her husband’s remains were taken to a mortuary without the family being properly notified.

“My husband got a call from his superiors on Sunday evening to report to work following power issues, and he told his superior that he would come to work after having his dinner. That was the last time I heard from my husband. A man who was not sick,” she said.

Beauty also called on the Rivers State Government and security agencies to intervene and prevail on PHEDC to clarify what happened to her husband.

“Two of his colleagues came to my house on Monday with the sad news that my husband is dead. I’m shocked to hear this. It’s a lie. PHEDC should provide my husband. Who will take care of me and our only son?” she said.

The family is seeking clarification on the circumstances of Kpabeke’s reported death, including the location of his remains and the events surrounding the alleged electrocution.

Meanwhile, PHEDC management says the matter is currently under investigation.

The company’s Public Relations Officer, Bukky Ilebare, told correspondent Ephraim Emmanuel that the outcome of the investigation would be made public.
