APC and APGA at Loggerheads Over Anambra Political Cooperation

By Sandra Kenneth

Tensions have escalated between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) following a sharp disagreement over the “progressives working together” narrative championed by Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo.

While Governor Soludo has routinely framed cooperation between APGA and the ruling APC at the federal level as part of a broader progressive alliance, key APC leaders have strongly rejected the arrangement, calling it misleading.

Speaking over the weekend at an Anambra Central senatorial district stakeholders’ meeting at the Uche Ekwunife Centre in Awka, the Deputy National Chairman of the APC (South), Ben Nwoye, dismissed the governor’s slogan as a political fallacy.

“We urge our supporters not to be deceived by APGA’s slogan of ‘Progressives are working together.’ It is a fallacy, and we reject it because it is aimed at deceiving the President and our supporters,” Nwoye told party officials. He stressed that the APC remains fully committed to delivering victory for all its candidates in the 2027 general elections, including President Bola Tinubu.

Reinforcing this position, the APC senatorial candidate for Anambra Central and South-East Zonal Director of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Uche Ekwunife, urged party loyalists to focus strictly on APC’s candidates across all ballots.

“We must not be deceived by the APGA slogan of ‘Progressives are working together in Anambra.’ We must vote for Tinubu to enable him to complete the developmental projects he has started in the South-East region,” Ekwunife stated, emphasizing that the party’s goal is to dominate presidential, National Assembly, and state assembly polls.

In response, APGA Publicity Secretary, Ejimofor Opara, pushed back against the APC’s claims, insisting that the collaborative spirit among progressive forces remains strong and genuine.

Opara highlighted APGA’s explicit adoption of President Tinubu as its presidential candidate for 2027 as concrete evidence of the alignment.

“We can tell them for free that in APGA, we are not deceptive. We say what we mean, and we mean what we say. That we have adopted President Bola Tinubu is enough proof, and let them wait to see the outcome,” Opara said.

He further noted that APGA’s backing has significantly bolstered the President’s political presence in Anambra and the wider South-East region, reaffirming that the party intends to help secure President Tinubu’s re-election while maintaining its distinct political identity in the state.
