By Elvira Jordan

One person has been confirmed dead, while several others are feared trapped beneath the rubble of a two-storey building under construction that collapsed in the Fadeyi area of Lagos State in the early hours of Friday.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.

According to Oke-Osanyintolu, the agency received a distress call about the collapse at 12:10 a.m., prompting the immediate deployment of its Cobra Response Team from the Onipanu base.

The emergency responders arrived at the scene two minutes later and discovered that the two-storey structure, which was still under construction, had collapsed.

Preliminary assessments indicated that construction workers might have been trapped beneath the debris, prompting the team to commence search and rescue operations.

Oke-Osanyintolu said emergency personnel were working to locate and evacuate possible survivors while implementing safety measures to protect both the victims and rescue workers.

The agency said efforts were ongoing to determine whether more people remained trapped beneath the wreckage as rescue operations continued.
