The Rivers State University (RSU) has commenced the enforcement of its ‘No Identity Card, No Entry’ policy for staff, students and visitors as part of efforts to strengthen security and protect lives and property on campus.
The enforcement began on Monday, October 19, 2026, with members of the university’s enforcement committee stationed at various entry points to ensure compliance. The exercise is expected to continue indefinitely.
Speaking during the exercise, Dr Theresa Belema Chris-Biriowu, a committee member representing the Directorate of Student Affairs, said the policy was introduced to enable the university to identify everyone on campus and establish the purpose of their visit.
“The idea is that we want to know everybody that is on campus and what they are doing here,” she said.
Dr Belema explained that staff members who forget their identity cards at home would be required to return them or obtain visitor tags. However, those who opt for visitor tags would not be allowed to perform their official duties while on campus.
She also clarified that students who arrive without their identity cards may obtain visitor tags but would not be permitted to attend lectures or participate in academic activities as students.
“If you take the visitor’s tag, you will not be allowed into the classroom because you are not a student,” she stated.
The committee member stressed that the policy was designed to promote proper identification and accountability among everyone entering the university’s premises.
The university says the measure forms part of its efforts to enhance campus security and safeguard lives and property within the institution.
