Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has credited President Bola Tinubu with revolutionizing personnel welfare within the nation’s security services, highlighting the clearance of long-standing promotion backlogs and the approval of lifetime salaries for retired top immigration officers.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo made these remarks on Friday in Abuja while speaking at the closing ceremony of the Specialised Border Control and Immigration Management System Training held at the Immigration Headquarters, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria.
Commending the administration’s commitment to security personnel, the minister revealed that approximately 50,000 workers across ministry services have attained new ranks and offices over a three-year period—a feat he described as unprecedented.
“It has never happened before, but Tinubu did it. He also increased the volume of recruitment, where we now have no fewer than 40,000 new recruits at once,” Tunji-Ojo stated. He added that the President has successfully implemented salary increments, hazard allowances, and peculiar allowances for active personnel.
Addressing retiree welfare, the minister highlighted a major upward review for retired leadership cadres, contrasting previous financial struggles with the new presidential policy.
“Previously, CGs had a pension of about N130,000; it was not encouraging. But what did the president do? He signed and approved salary for life for CGs and DCGs,” he noted.
Describing President Tinubu as a visionary leader focused on sustainable institutional growth, Tunji-Ojo emphasized that the President’s policies under the Renewed Hope Agenda are engineered for lasting national impact.
“President Bola Tinubu has never been about the immediate, but the future. He understands that the most prosperous nations do not boil, cook, and eat their seeds; they plant them,” the minister remarked.
Concluding his address, Tunji-Ojo urged officers to reciprocate the government’s unprecedented support by executing their duties diligently and ensuring quality service delivery to everyday citizens.
