President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally transmitted the National School of Government Bill 2026 to the Senate for legislative consideration and approval.
The executive bill is designed to repeal the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) Act, Cap. A-4, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, paving the way for the establishment of a modernised institution dedicated to advanced leadership development, policy delivery, and public sector capacity building.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the President’s letter during Wednesday’s plenary session.
“Pursuant to Section 58 (2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, I forward herewith the National School of Government Bill 2026 for the kind consideration of the Senate,” President Tinubu stated in the letter, expressing optimism that lawmakers would grant the proposed legislation expeditious passage.
Next Legislative Steps
Following the reading of the letter, Senator Akpabio noted that copies detailing the bill’s clauses and operational framework had been provided for the lawmakers. He subsequently referred the executive bill to the Senate Committee on Rules and Business for further legislative action.
The proposed institution is expected to serve as Nigeria’s premier national hub for executive training, administrative excellence, and strategic policy implementation once legislative processes are concluded.
