Lagos Police Arrest 20-Year-Old Phone Seller Over Alleged Crushing of Police Sergeant To Death
A 20-year-old phone seller, Olusola Olumide, has confessed to crushing a police sergeant to death in Lagos.
The incident occurred while police officers were on stop and search duty along Olugbede Street in the Egbeda area of Lagos State. According to police sources, officers signalled Olumide to stop and he initially complied.
However, as Sergeant Johnson Okediji approached the driver’s side, Olumide suddenly sped off.
The officer was knocked down and dragged underneath the vehicle for several metres, despite repeated attempts by police officers and passers-by to make the driver stop.The driver was eventually chased and arrested.
The officer sustained multiple fractures and head injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital and subsequently referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The Lagos State Police Command is expected to issue an official statement on the incident.
