TRAGEDY IN PLATEAU: 15 KILLED AS GUNMEN ATTACK TRAVELLERS AND COMMUNITIES ACROSS THREE LGAS

By Sandra Kenneth

At least 15 people lost their lives on Sunday night following a series of coordinated, deadly attacks by suspected terrorists targeting local communities and commuters across Jos South, Mangu, and Riyom Local Government Areas of Plateau State.

The single deadliest incident occurred at approximately 9:40 p.m. in the Dungus community of Jos South LGA, where gunmen ambushed a commercial vehicle carrying passengers bound for Jos. Nine passengers—including an operative of the state security outfit, Operation Rainbow—were killed after the attackers opened fire on the moving vehicle.

Rwang Tengwong, spokesperson for the Berom Youth Moulders, confirmed the ambush, lamenting the severe loss of life and noting that several injured passengers succumbed to gunshot wounds after being rushed to nearby medical facilities. A local resident, Musa Dauda, added that multiple victims remain hospitalized in critical condition.

Parallel violence erupted elsewhere in the state during the same period:

In Mangu LGA, suspected terrorists raided Vodni in the Pushit District, killing two people and injuring four others, who are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Mangu town.

In Riyom LGA, gunmen launched an attack on the Tahoos community, leaving two residents dead.

At the time of reporting, neither the spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred, nor the Media Officer for Operation Enduring Peace, Chinonso Oteh, had responded to requests for official statements on the night’s violent incidents.
