Former Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 winner and ex-Miss South Africa contestant, Chidimma Adetshina, has alleged that she is being unfairly targeted and treated as a scapegoat following the postponement of her legal battle over her potential detention and deportation from South Africa.
Adetshina made the remarks while addressing reporters outside the Cape Town Regional Court, which ruled that it could not confirm her detention pending the outcome of a related case before the Western Cape High Court. The matter has now been postponed to February 2027.
Maintaining her faith in the judicial process, the beauty queen reminded the public of her roots in the country and called for fairness over prejudice.
“I remind everyone that I was born in South Africa,” Adetshina stated. “I have applied through the proper legal channels to have my status and citizenship determined. I believe that I have been treated unfairly and targeted, and there has been an attempt to make me an example, but my message is not going to be one out of anger.”
She cautioned against allowing sentiment to dictate official actions, emphasizing that the nation must remain committed to human dignity and lawful processes.
“South Africa is governed by the rule of law, and we should not allow xenophobia and misinformation to determine how people are going to be treated,” she added. “We should all be guided by the spirit of Ubuntu. Throughout this ordeal, I have availed myself through all appropriate legal resources, and I will continue to respect and abide by each process.”
Adetshina confirmed that she will continue to challenge the government’s deportation bid through the courts as the Western Cape High Court proceedings draw near.
