Rivers Assembly Steps In to Resolve Ongoing Rumuosi Estate Land Tussle

By Precious Amadi

The Rivers State House of Assembly has intervened in the ongoing dispute over the Rumuosi Victory Estate, ordering all feuding parties to maintain the peace and halt any further actions on the property while a parliamentary investigation is underway.

The directive was issued by the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Petitions, Hon. Enemi George, during a meeting convened with estate landlords, local authorities, and key stakeholders. Among those in attendance was the Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Hon. Gift Worlu.

Hon. George instructed the Obio/Akpor council boss to deploy adequate security around the disputed estate to forestall any breakdown of law and order while lawmakers look into the matter.

The primary respondent in the dispute, Colonel Ogwumerum-Eke, was absent from the proceedings.

In a letter submitted through his legal counsel, Godwin Dike, Colonel Ogwumerum-Eke explained that his absence was due to a conflicting court appearance regarding a related matter.

He subsequently requested the committee to adjourn the hearing to a later date to allow his full participation.
