The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has directed its State and Local Government Area (LGA) chairmen across the nation to begin the compilation and harmonization of polling agents ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party leadership gave a two-week deadline for the submission of the final lists for official review and approval.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the NDC National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, state and local party heads were instructed to immediately convene meetings with candidates and key stakeholders to streamline the selection process. The director noted that the exercise aligns strictly with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.
According to the party’s directive, two separate sets of polling agents will be collated:
National Assembly Elections: One team dedicated strictly to parliamentary polls.
State Elections: A separate group covering governorship and State House of Assembly contests.
The party emphasized that candidate input remains central to the process. To validate nominations and establish clear ownership, final lists must be counter-signed by both the respective candidates and state chairmen. In cases where disputes arise between party leadership and candidates regarding agent selections, the candidate’s choice will take precedence.
Once compiled, the lists will undergo scrutiny and ratification by top party leadership—including the presidential candidate and running mate—prior to the launch of agent training programs.
Reassuring party members and supporters of its readiness, the Director stated that the NDC’s organizational structures are fully in place to conduct a robust, issue-based campaign ahead of the 2027 polls.
