Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has declared that his administration and supporters will firmly resist any form of political intimidation or provocation ahead of the upcoming state governorship election.
Speaking in a series of posts on his official X handle on Thursday, Adeleke emphasized that prudent resource management and people-centered governance remain the hallmarks of his tenure. He commended party loyalists for their enthusiastic turnout during a campaign rally in Ayedaade Local Government Area, describing the reception as a clear reaffirmation of the public’s commitment to his continuity agenda.
“Our people continue to demonstrate remarkable resilience in the face of repeated provocations,” Adeleke stated. “Let me state it clearly once again: we will resist, through lawful and democratic means, any attempt to undermine the will of the great people of Osun State. We will not bow to intimidation, regardless of where it comes from.”
Highlighting his administration’s achievements, the governor noted that visible and measurable progress across key sectors speaks for itself. He called on his supporters to remain peaceful, vigilant, and disciplined as election day approaches.
“The greatest response to intimidation is unity, discipline, and an overwhelming turnout at the polls,” Adeleke added. “Together, by the grace of God, we will protect our mandate and continue building a greater Osun for all.”
Escalating Tensions Over State Finances
The governor’s strong stance comes against the backdrop of escalating friction between the state government and federal anti-graft authorities.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently directed a restriction on withdrawals from Osun State’s statutory allocation bank account as part of an ongoing investigation. The move has drawn criticism from legal bodies, with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) faulting the agency for executing a blanket restriction on a state government’s finances without due legal process.
In response, Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, refuted allegations of financial misconduct. Alimi accused the EFCC of acting on political directives aimed at frustrating the state government’s distribution of worker palliatives.
Governor Adeleke, who is seeking a second term under the Accord Party banner, continues his statewide campaign ahead of the governorship election scheduled for August 15.
