The Ny’ê-ïshï Èlé Úpātá Lôwétü Lî, His Majesty Dr. Felix Enene Otuwarikpo, has renewed his call for peace, inter-ethnic harmony, and national cohesion, identifying dialogue and enhanced security as essential ingredients for socio-economic development across Nigerian communities.

Speaking on Saturday, August 15, during the historic traditional wrestling event in Udebu town, Ekpeye land, the Úpātá monarch urged leaders at all levels of government to implement targeted policies and welfare programs to cushion the prevailing economic hardship facing citizens.

“Enhanced security remains the foundation for rapid socio-economic and political development in our communities,” HM Otuwarikpo stated. He emphasized that traditional institutions must continue to foster good neighborliness and peaceful coexistence to build resilient communities.

The monarch commended the leadership of the Udebu community for preserving Ekpeye cultural heritage through the promotion of traditional wrestling, known locally as Ètä. He particularly lauded the Ny’údū Ulá Udebu, Chief Uche Reuben Uturu, for maintaining synergy across local governance organs and demonstrating exemplary leadership as a custodian of custom.

Reflecting on the heritage of the kingdom, HM Otuwarikpo described traditional wrestling as a vital institution that transcends physical competition.

“Traditional wrestling serves as a celebration of harvest and a historic measure of manhood, unity, and prestige across Úpātá communities,” the monarch remarked, noting its historical role in instilling discipline, fostering healthy rivalry between neighboring villages, and reinforcing communal bonds.
