TENSION IN RUMUJI AS YOUTHS ALLEGE ATTACK ON LOCAL WELDER, PETITION SECURITY AGENCIES

By Sandra Kenneth

Community leaders and residents of Rumuji in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State have petitioned security agencies following an alleged assault on a local welder, Mr. Junior Mini, on Friday morning.

Some Concerned Rumuji Indigenes alleged that Mini was attacked along the commercial axis of the community between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. by individuals reportedly linked to Mr. Ovodo Simeon Alikor.

According to community sources, the assault stemmed from public comments made by Mini commending the President-General of the Rumuji Youth Association, Comrade Anele Ogbu, for developmental initiatives that reduced operational costs for local artisans.

The community expressed deep concern over what they termed growing intimidation and persistent security threats, urging the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Rumuji Police Division to initiate a formal investigation into the incident.

They also called on law enforcement authorities to examine wider community petitions involving several named individuals and investigate past unresolved security breaches in the area, including the October 2025 killing of Mr. Paul Orduve.

Furthermore, the indigenes urged the management of Greenville Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), an industrial operator in the area, to review its security protocols and address host-community complaints regarding individuals operating around its premises.

Community representatives emphasized that the petition was aimed at preventing further breakdown of law and order, calling on law enforcement agencies to maintain peace, protect residents, and ensure that those involved in the reported assault face appropriate legal due process.

When contacted, Ovodo-Alikor who denied inflicting injuries on any one said they only intercepted the victim when he threatened to destroy Greenville property just as he accused the victim of also destroying a property prior to yesterday’s attack.
