The Southern Youth Foundation has postponed its planned protest over the killing of its member, Itekena George, by an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in Port Harcourt.
Itekena George was allegedly killed by an NSCDC officer during a raid on the youth leader’s father’s house, where he was accused of injuring someone.
The protest, which was scheduled for Tuesday, 28th July, 2026, to the Rivers State NSCDC Headquarters and Rivers State Police Command Headquarters, has now been put on hold until further notice.
President of the Southern Youth Foundation, Comrade Emeni Ibe, told ExceedFM that the decision followed an advice. He said the protest was to ensure the suspect remains detained.
Comrade Ibe said the group will wait for the outcome of investigations and the subsequent prosecution of the suspect.
The father of the slain youth Christian George has also decried the killing and pleaded with security agencies to ensure justice is done.
