The Rivers State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr. Moses Oleghe, has charged the outgoing 2026 Batch B Stream I corps members to remain steadfast in upholding the core ideals of the scheme as they transition into the next phase of their lives.
Oleghe gave the charge during a low-key passing-out ceremony held at Isaac Boro Park in Port Harcourt. Addressing the departing youths, he emphasized that virtues such as patriotism, discipline, honesty, integrity, dedication, and selfless service must remain their guiding principles. He noted that these values are crucial foundations for building successful careers and contributing meaningfully to national development.
A total of 2,361 corps members—comprising 941 males and 1,420 females—successfully completed their mandatory one-year national service in the state.
However, the State Coordinator revealed that disciplinary measures were meted out to some erring participants. According to Oleghe, 35 corps members (21 males and 14 females) had their service extended for various infractions, while nine others (seven males and two females) will repeat the entire service year.
On a celebratory note, Oleghe announced that two outstanding corps members, one male and one female, received the prestigious State Honours Award for their exceptional contributions during the service year.
He also expressed profound gratitude to the Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, and the people of the state for fostering a peaceful and enabling environment that ensured the safety and success of the corps members. He further appealed for sustained state support for the scheme.
Reflecting on the service year, Oleghe highlighted that the batch recorded zero fatalities, describing the achievement as a testament to divine faithfulness and the unwavering commitment of stakeholders to the welfare and safety of the youths.
