By Precious Amadi

The Rivers State House of Assembly on Tuesday received three reports from its Committee on Public Complaints and Petitions during the third legislative sitting of the fourth session of the Tenth Assembly. Debate on the reports was deferred to a later legislative day.

Presenting the reports, Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Enemi George, said the committee’s intervention in the oil spill involving the 24-inch Ogale–Bonny pipeline and Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited led to a peaceful and successful resolution of the matter.

George also informed the House that the committee successfully mediated a dispute arising from a petition filed by Mr. Bright and 15 others against Zest Optimal Global Services Ltd over alleged non-payment of contract entitlements.

On a third petition brought by a cooperative group, the lawmaker expressed concern over the failure of NNPC Ltd to honour the committee’s invitation. He stressed that the committee was established to provide citizens and communities with an avenue to seek redress after exhausting other available channels.

The Deputy Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Dumle Maol, who presided over the sitting, formally received the reports and ruled that debate on them would be taken on a subsequent legislative day.The reports form part of the Assembly’s oversight functions aimed at addressing public complaints, resolving disputes, and promoting accountability in Rivers State.
