Popular Nigerian content creator, Peller, has voiced his frustration after allegedly receiving counterfeit US dollars while being sprayed with money during a recent event.
In a viral video circulating across social media platforms, the creator revealed that while the Nigerian currency sprayed on him was verified as authentic by his bank, a portion of the foreign currency turned out to be fake.
“I went to the bank, and the Nigerian money was genuine,” Peller explained. “I saw that a lot of people gave me Nigerian currency, and that is good. I know the people who gave me genuine money; if I see them, I will recognise them.”
However, his excitement quickly turned to disappointment after attempting to exchange the foreign notes.
“I got home, I was feeling like a millionaire and used the money to make a video. ‘Hello, hello,’ and then I realised it was fake,” he stated. “Since I went to change dollars yesterday night, I haven’t talked about the dollars… Is it by force to spray money?”
The content creator expressed dismay over the incident, questioning the rationale behind spraying fake cash at public functions simply to maintain appearances. While Peller noted that he could identify several guests who gave him genuine Naira notes, he declined to reveal the identities of those responsible for handing out the counterfeit dollars.
The incident highlights growing concerns over the practice of spraying counterfeit cash at high-profile social events across the country, as celebrities and creators increasingly fall victim to public displays of ostensible wealth.
