Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has called on political leaders, candidates, and residents of Osun State to maintain peace and shun intimidation ahead of the upcoming governorship election.
In a statement posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, the award-winning musician stressed the importance of a free, fair, and credible electoral process, urging all political actors to respect the mandate of the electorate.
“Let us reject violence, intimidation, provocation, and every act capable of disrupting the peace of our communities. Your vote is your voice, and your choice deserves to be respected,” Davido wrote. “LET THE OSUN PPLE DECIDE! FREE AND FAIR! VOTE NOT FIGHT!”
The singer’s peace advocacy comes as political activities intensify across the state. Davido urged major contenders—including his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, and the candidate of the All-Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Oyebamiji—to readily accept the final outcome determined by the voters.
He highlighted that Osun residents must be allowed to exercise their civic rights without fear or coercion, reiterating his commitment to advocating for transparency throughout the exercise.
Active Campaign and Political Alignment
In addition to his call for peace, Davido explicitly endorsed Governor Adeleke’s second-term bid under the Accord Party platform.
“ACCORD IS THE PARTY! ADEMOLA ADELEKE IS THE CHOICE!” he declared.
Davido played a pivotal role in the 2022 Osun governorship election, using his massive influence to mobilize young voters in support of Adeleke, who defeated then-incumbent Governor Gboyega Oyetola. Following Adeleke’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party ahead of the forthcoming election, the music star has taken an even more active role in campaigning and youth mobilization for the governor’s re-election campaign.
