The Rivers State Chairman of the Muslim Youth Council of Nigeria, Mallam Shehu Kagbara, has called for enhanced religious tolerance and equitable treatment for all faith groups across the state.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Exceedfm, Kagbara, acknowledged that relations between Muslim and Christian communities in Rivers State have improved significantly over the years. However, he emphasized that continuous effort is required to guarantee long-term peaceful coexistence.
Kagbara urged the Federal Government to strengthen legislation promoting interfaith harmony, with a particular focus on integration within the educational system. He also called on the Rivers State Government to protect constitutional rights to freedom of worship by ensuring fair and unbiased treatment for all religious organizations.
Addressing economic and political inclusion, the youth leader appealed for greater representation of indigenous Muslims in state government appointments, public employment, and economic empowerment initiatives.
According to Kagbara, indigenous Muslims must be fully recognized as equal stakeholders in the state’s growth and governance, rather than being acknowledged solely during festive or religious occasions.
