Misdiagnosis Led to Actor Ogogo’s Death, Says Daughter

By Samuel Olusegun Precious

Kira Hassan, daughter of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, widely known as Ogogo, has revealed that a severe medical misdiagnosis played a critical role in the untimely death of her father.

Speaking following his passing, Kira disclosed that the iconic movie star fought a long, painful battle with illness after doctors initially misdiagnosed his condition as an ulcer—a mistake that went uncorrected for seven years before medical personnel finally identified it as stage-four cancer.

The veteran actor passed away on Sunday at the age of 66 and was laid to rest on Monday in his hometown of Ilaro, located in the Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State.

Ogogo had previously spoken publicly about his harrowing health battle, recalling in an interview that he suffered immensely, vomited blood, and was restricted to a liquid diet of corn porridge (pap) for seven consecutive years.

Thousands of grieving fans, community members, and colleagues gathered in Ilaro to pay their final respects. Among the mourners was his long-time friend and screen partner, Yinka Quadri, who was visibly inconsolable throughout the funeral proceedings.

With a career spanning over four decades, Ogogo was a celebrated stalwart of the Yoruba film industry, leaving behind a legacy as one of Nigerian cinema’s most beloved figures.
