Nigerian para-athletics superstar Goodness Nwachukwu has etched her name deeper into the history books after delivering a sensational world record-breaking throw to retain her Commonwealth Games title.
Competing in the women’s F42-44/F61-64 discus throws at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, the 27-year-old saved her best effort for the final round, unleashing a monstrous 39.66-metre throw to secure gold and set a new F42 world record.
The staggering throw shattered her own previous world mark by more than three metres, reaffirming her status as one of global para-athletics’ most dominant forces.
The victory marks Nwachukwu’s second consecutive Commonwealth Games discus title following her gold-medal debut at Birmingham 2022, where she broke the world record twice en route to victory with a 36.56-metre throw.
Reflecting on her journey representing the nation, Nwachukwu previously shared how much the global stage means to her.
“Walking into the stadium and seeing thousands of people waiting to watch me compete was something I will never forget. Winning a medal opened many doors in my life,” she said.
Nwachukwu’s triumph handed Nigeria its seventh gold medal of the Glasgow Games, anchoring a highly successful campaign for Team Nigeria.
She joins a stellar lineup of Nigerian champions in Glasgow, including para-powerlifters Esther Nworgu, Folashade Oluwafemiayo, and Riluwan Idris, alongside weightlifting gold medalists Edidiong Umoafia, Onome Didih, and Rafiatu Folashade Lawal. Nigeria’s medal tally also features bronze medal performances by Kanyinsola Ajayi in the men’s 100 metres and Temitope Adeshina in the women’s high jump.
