FG Welcomes Suspension of Oyo Teachers’ Strike, Schools Resume

The Federal Government has welcomed the suspension of the teachers’ strike in Oyo State, describing it as a “victory for dialogue” and a major step toward restoring uninterrupted learning in public schools.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, said the resolution followed sustained engagements involving the Federal Ministry of Education, the Oyo State Government, and the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, at national, zonal, and state levels.“I am glad to report today that the strike has been suspended. Teachers are now returning to school to educate their students,” Alausa said in a statement by the Ministry’s Director of Press, Boriowo Folasade.

The Minister commended Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for “exemplary leadership in resolving the dispute through dialogue.” He also praised NUT National President, Comrade Audu Titus Amba, South-West Zonal Chairman, Comrade Hassan Ajibola Fatai, and the Oyo State NUT leadership for their roles.Why Teachers Withdrew Services 

The industrial action followed weeks of disruption in public primary and secondary schools after NUT directed members to withdraw services over security concerns. The concerns arose from the abduction of teachers and pupils in Oriire Local Government Area.FG Pledges Safe Schools 

Alausa reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to keeping children in school. “Our children will remain in school, and we will continue to educate them. We will not succumb to terror,” he said. The Ministry said it will continue working with state governments, unions, and security agencies to strengthen school safety and protect every child’s right to quality education under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
