Grammy winner Burna Boy clocks 35, July 2, 2026

Grammy Award-winning Afrobeats sensation Burna Boy is celebrating his 35th birthday on Thursday, July 2, 2026, with an outpouring of tributes from fans, fellow entertainers and well-wishers, who have praised both his remarkable musical achievements and his growing humanitarian impact.

Born Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu on July 2, 1991, in Port Harcourt, Burna Boy has risen to become one of Africa’s most celebrated global music icons. Since breaking into the mainstream with his 2012 hit single Like to Party, he has played a pivotal role in taking Afrobeats to the global stage through his unique fusion of Afrobeats, dancehall, reggae and hip-hop.

Beyond his success in music, Burna Boy has established himself as a cultural ambassador for Nigeria and the African continent, using his platform to promote African heritage while inspiring a new generation of artists to pursue international recognition. His influence has also extended into philanthropy, with initiatives supporting education, healthcare and community development.

Social media activist VeryDarkMan joined the birthday celebrations by revealing some of the singer’s charitable contributions. In a heartfelt message, he disclosed that Burna Boy had donated more than ₦300 million toward various humanitarian projects within the past year.

According to VeryDarkMan, the Afrobeats star fully funded the renovation of the study area at the University of Jos hostel, including the construction of modern toilet facilities. He also revealed that Burna Boy financed the renovation of the clinic at Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa.

Throughout his career, Burna Boy has released several critically acclaimed albums, including L.I.F.E, On a Spaceship, Outside, African Giant, Twice as Tall, Love, Damini, I Told Them… and No Sign of Weakness. His catalogue features global hits such as Ye, Anybody, On the Low, Last Last, City Boys and Bundle by Bundle.

His impressive list of accolades includes the Grammy Award for Best Global Music Album for Twice as Tall, becoming the first Nigerian artist to receive Grammy nominations in consecutive years, as well as multiple BET Awards, MTV Europe Music Awards, MOBO Awards, The Headies and All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA).

 He has also headlined sold-out concerts at some of the world’s most prestigious venues and made history as the first African artist to headline and sell out a U.S. stadium concert, further cementing his place among Africa’s greatest musical exports.
