Mikel Arteta has agreed terms on a new, improved contract to extend his tenure as manager of Premier League champions Arsenal.
The Spaniard’s previous deal was set to expire at the end of the current season, but following months of negotiations, an agreement has now been finalized.
While the exact duration of the contract remains unconfirmed, the extension is expected to keep Arteta at the Emirates Stadium into at least his 10th year in charge, having originally taken over the helm in December 2019.
The deal comes with a substantial pay rise from his current earnings of £10 million per year, alongside an additional £5 million available in performance-related bonuses.
Speaking on his future, Arteta sought to ease any supporter concerns over the length of negotiations.
“They don’t have to worry about any of that because I want to be here,” Arteta said. “I’m extremely happy and I feel very grateful to work with the people I work with.”
