ADP CONDEMNS POLICE KILLING IN PORT HARCOURT, DEMANDS ACCOUNTABILITY AND TIGHTER BORDER SECURITY

By Sandra Kenneth

The Action Democratic Party (ADP), Rivers State Chapter, has strongly condemned the recent killing of a young man by a police officer in Port Harcourt, demanding a thorough investigation and swift prosecution of the officer involved.

In an official statement released in Port Harcourt, the opposition party called on the Rivers State Police Command to ensure transparency in handling the case and hold the offending personnel fully accountable under the law.

The party further urged the Police High Command to initiate an immediate reorientation of its operational personnel, emphasizing the need for professionalism, tactical restraint, and strict adherence to human rights, especially with political activities intensifying across the country.

Beyond policing reforms, the ADP raised concerns over arms proliferation, calling on joint security agencies to fortify surveillance along Rivers State borders to intercept the illegal inflow and circulation of weapons by political actors and criminal networks.

“Rivers State must not become a theatre of violence before, during, or after elections,” the party stated, stressing that the safety and protection of Rivers residents must remain the primary duty of government and security institutions.
