The Rivers State Chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has joined the national film community in mourning the passing of veteran actor Olu Jacobs, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of the legendary thespian.
In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Rivers State Chapter, Dr. Ken Osunwa, the guild extended heartfelt condolences to Jacobs’ family, the national leadership of the AGN, and his widow, acclaimed actress Joke Silva, who sits on the guild’s Board of Trustees.
Osunwa paid tribute to the late actor, describing him as a consummate professional whose dedication to character interpretation and screen performance elevated Nigerian cinema.
“He was one of the thoroughly bred professionals who brought characters to life on screen. His influence transcended Nollywood; he featured in movies and series abroad before returning to the country to mentor young and aspiring actors,” Osunwa said.
The chapter offered prayers for the repose of the late actor’s soul, while asking for strength and fortitude for Silva and the entire family during their period of grief.
Olu Jacobs leaves behind an enduring artistic legacy spanning more than five decades across theatre, television, and film in both the United Kingdom and Nigeria, cementing his status as one of Africa’s most distinguished performing artists.
