The Rivers State House of Assembly has set up a seven-member ad-hoc committee to investigate the state government’s financial disbursements to PAMO University of Medical Sciences (PUMS) since the institution’s establishment.
Invoking powers under Section 128 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, constituted the panel to examine all funds allocated to the private university from 2017 to date.
The committee, chaired by Rt. Hon. Dumle Maol, is tasked with determining the exact total amount disbursed to PUMS, evaluating whether the funds were judiciously utilized for their intended purposes, and verifying the identities and numbers of all beneficiaries under the state’s scholarship scheme at the institution.
Other members of the probe panel include Hon. Silvanus Nwankwo, Hon. Lemchi Nyeche, Hon. Henrietta Loolo, Hon. Peter Abbey, Hon. Napoleon Ukalikpe, and Hon. Emilia Amadi.
According to a press statement issued by the Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Hon. Enemi Alabo George, the ad-hoc panel has been given until September 30, 2026, to conclude its investigation and submit a comprehensive report back to the assembly floor.
