Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has asserted that the delivery of key infrastructure projects by his administration will provide the All Progressives Congress (APC) with a distinct campaign advantage in the 2027 general elections.
Governor Fubara stated this on Wednesday during the official commissioning of the 14.5-kilometre Agba-Ndele Road and its adjoining bridge, an infrastructure project linking rural communities across the Emohua and Abua/Odual Local Government Areas of the state.
Speaking at the event, the Governor maintained that his administration’s completed projects serve as verifiable evidence of performance that will simplify grassroots mobilization for the party’s flagbearers.
“What we have done here today will make it easy for our candidate that will be representing us in the forthcoming elections,” Fubara said. “When he comes here to campaign, especially in Emohua, he will tell them: my party did this and my party did that.”
He explained that the project forms a vital part of his administration’s drive to extend rural infrastructure and bring tangible benefits to residents who previously endured long travel times on the dilapidated old Abua Road.
Clarifying the history of the infrastructure, Fubara disclosed that the bridge was initiated by an earlier administration and not by his government or his immediate predecessor. He noted that his decision to complete it stems from the view that governance must function as a continuous relay race where leaders build on inherited assets for the public good.
The Governor charged community members, youth groups, and traditional institutions to safeguard the facilities. He specifically directed the Chairman of Emohua Local Government Area, Hon. Chidi Lloyd, and his Abua/Odual counterpart, Hon. Owolobi Michael Ofori, to assume direct responsibility for protecting public property within their councils.
Providing technical details of the project, the Commissioner for Works, Prof. Temple Nwofor, stated that the 14.5-kilometre road features a 10.3-metre binder-course width, a 7.3-metre wearing-course width, 3-metre shoulders, and 0.6m by 0.6m concrete drainage channels. He added that the bridge section spans 239.4 metres with a width of 10.3 metres, complete with 1.5-metre walkways on both sides and a 1.2-kilometre access road.
