The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has successfully restored full control over its official X (formerly Twitter) handle following a recent cybersecurity breach.
Military authorities confirmed the account’s recovery on Monday through a concise message published on the platform, stating, “WE’RE BACK. Thank you for your patience and continued support.”
The resolution follows an alert issued by the military two days prior regarding an attempted cyberattack. In an official statement released Saturday, the Director of Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Samaila Uba, confirmed that technical safeguards and protocols were immediately deployed to isolate the threat and prevent further unauthorized access.
“The Defence Headquarters wishes to inform members of the public, the media, and all stakeholders that it has detected an attempted unauthorized compromise of its official X account,” Uba stated during the incident. “The incident is currently being treated as a cybersecurity matter, and appropriate technical measures have been activated.”
During the breach, military authorities urged the public to disregard any suspicious or misleading posts made from the account and directed stakeholders to monitor official updates via alternative verified channels, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
Reaffirming its commitment to digital security, the DHQ emphasized that it continues to uphold strict cybersecurity standards to ensure the public receives timely, credible, and accurate information regarding operations of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
