In a major step toward ending political friction in the state, the Reconciliation Committee of the Rainbow Coalition met on Sunday with Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, to finalize modalities for restoring unity among hitherto estranged political leaders.
The meeting, held at Government House in Port Harcourt, marks the second engagement between the governor and the committee in two weeks. Members of the panel assured stakeholders that under the ongoing peace framework, no individual will face victimization or discrimination, regardless of past political differences.
Briefing journalists after the closed-door session, Chairman of the Reconciliation Committee, Senator Magnus Abe, noted that the panel was established by the leader of the coalition and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to map out a clear roadmap for reunification.
“Our coming together signals a significant shift in the political atmosphere of the state,” Abe stated, emphasizing that all parties are aligned on achieving lasting stability. “We are all in agreement and we have made very good progress. We believe all well-meaning Rivers people will be happy to see that the peace they crave is finally here.”
Also speaking, the APC South-South Zone Publicity Secretary, Dr. Samuel Nwanosike, commended Governor Fubara for his open-door approach to the dialogue. He expressed optimism that the coalition’s renewed cohesion would translate into enhanced development and governance for the state.
Adding to the sentiments, Chief Ambrose Nwuzi described previous disputes as normal in any political space, confirming that consensus has been reached across the board. He indicated that stakeholders are now awaiting the final endorsement from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to formally seal the reconciliation process.
The high-level delegation also included the APC governorship candidate in Rivers State, Hon. Kingsley Ogundu Chinda, and Mr. Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja, among other prominent political figures.
