The Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Bonny, Rivers State, has handed over six suspected drug traffickers and a substantial quantity of illicit substances to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The handover ceremony took place at the FOB Bonny base, where the Regulating Officer, Lieutenant A. Y. Buniyamin, officially transferred custody of the suspects and the confiscated materials to the Deputy Area Comptroller of the NDLEA, Bonny Local Government Area Command, Kikpoye Olokirika.
According to an official statement issued by the Navy, the arrest followed a successful joint security operation on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. The coordinated raid was carried out by personnel from the FOB Bonny, the NDLEA Bonny Area Command, and the local Okoloma Security Team.
The operation targeted Ama-Awusa (Hausa Quarters) in the Amaomu area of Bonny Island—popularly known as “G-Unit”—a location long identified by authorities as a notorious hub for illicit drug dealing and criminal activity. Security officials disclosed that the raid was executed following actionable intelligence regarding ongoing illegal drug operations in the enclave.
Emphasizing the significance of the operation, NDLEA officials noted that the raid took place in the exact vicinity where an NDLEA officer was fatally stabbed during a previous crackdown, during which five suspected drug peddlers were apprehended.
Authorities assured the public that the suspects remain in NDLEA custody and will face prosecution as anti-narcotic operations continue across the state.
